The first evidence of jewelry dates from 25,000-12,000 B.C. as bones, teeth, and shells were hung on the body as primitive necklaces. By 3,000 B.C. there was mining of turquoise in the Sinai Peninsula and of emeralds in Egypt. Amber, carnelian, lapis lazuli and rock crystal are are considered some of the first “gemstones” worn as jewelry.
Since their introduction to humans, gemstones have been sought and adorned for their beauty and also as symbols of wealth, power, and authority. In addition to jewelry, kings put them in crowns, shields and swords.
In many cultures, and throughout history, gemstones have been credited with powers for healing and influencing future well being.
Formed through a combination of natural forces such as time, heat, pressure, gravity, natural mineral migration and chemical reaction, gemstone deposits make their way to the surface as the earth’s crust continually moves. This is where they become discovered and mined…from deep within the earth, stream beds, volcanoes, mollusks in the ocean… they are GOD’s Creations for us to discover and enjoy.
The “Learn About Jewelry” section of our website has been created for those of you who have a deeper interest in the treasures of this earth; including their history and lore.
Please enjoy and share with your friends who love jewelry as much as we do!
