Know when to restring and more
Pearls should be restrung approximately every 2-3 years, unless you wear them frequently or they have been stretched or damaged in some way. If your pearl necklace spends the vast majority of its time carefully tucked away in a jewelry box, restringing every four to five years is probably okay, depending on your storage method.
If you notice your pearls are looking soiled or discolored on some of the knots in between the pearls of your necklace or bracelet, it is probably time to restring them. Another way to tell, is when there is a space between your knots, and your pearls can move around freely. They should be fairly stationary and if they are not, it’s time to string them again. If you’re not certain as to whether or not your pearls need to be restrung, feel free to bring them into Perry’s and a sales associate will be happy to assist you.
Fine pearls should be carefully cleaned, strung with silk and knotted between each pearl if the job is done properly. Knotting between each pearl bead keeps them from rubbing against each other and also from scattering if the string is broken.
