Alan Perry estimates that he’s given away over $1 million in the past 30 years to various local charities. “I believe it’s our duty to give back to the community that supports you,” said Alan. “My father never got past the 2nd grade, and he didn’t learn how to read until he was in his late 50’s. So the Cape Fear Literacy Council is one of my favorite charities, and we’ve been involved with them for more than 20 years.” Other favorite organizations include Meals on Wheels and First Fruit Ministries. Alan has served on the Board of Directors for First Fruit Ministries for several years. A few years ago, one of Alan’s employees passed away from a heart attack at age 45. Since then, he and Perry’s Emporium have been involved with and supported the American Heart Association. Alan also routinely acts as auctioneer for various charities when they have a live auction as part of their fundraising activities.
